Two out of three down for the weekly X-people drawing challenge! First is Laurie Collins / Wallflower, my favourite character from the Academy X series. Academy X/New Mutants/Whatever they were calling it at the time (it went through a bunch of name-changes!) was my first introduction to Marvel comics that didn’t involve reading the Spider-Man clone saga over my brother’s shoulder as a wee Molly. Having a shy teenage girl character with crazy pheromone powers that made her uncertain about whether or not anyone actually liked her was a great way to get shy teenage girls reading superhero comics.
… Aaaaand then half the cast of Academy X was depowered, Laurie got her arm withered, and was then quite literally was put on a bus, blown up, and briefly resurrected as a zombie. That’s how I learned not to get too attached to characters in superhero comics.
I wasn’t going to draw Molly Hayes at first, but then I realized I could draw her in her Princess Powerful costume, and how could I pass that up? Unfortunately, I forgot to draw her other thumb, and by the time I realized this, I’d already finished the ink wash.
… I’m so sorry, I’ve forgotten how to draw hands for some reason.
